Doctors are thought how : They see the disease. They fix the disease (probably with pills or therapy). They are not, however, thought why. I get the impression that for most doctors, the why is so overlooked that it comes from deep within. Most doctors I've seen seem to want the world to fit within what they see as normal, or "what they like". How they want the world to be. Everything outside of that, "what they don't like", they want to "fix" and change. We end up with a system where some people with messed up (or missing) ethics are put in a position of control over other people with full legal right to do whatever they want. It reminds me of the time I was interned at the asylum.
