I wanted to see if the basement apartment's phone line was still working. I opened the ceiling where the two old Bell terminal blocks used to be (I removed the blocks years ago). There are four cables : Two grey grounds, one white phone cable and one grey phone cable. I skinned the eight wires and twisted the four pairs together. Unfortunately, I could not detect the short in the apartment. The first apartment socket has two phone cables : One comes from I-don't-know and the other probably goes to the second socket. Sorry for the shadows. I had to use the flash.
