I just set up an old printer and print server on macOS and Windows. I have an HP LaserJet 3050 connected into a DPR-1260 print server. The old setup had our computers print to my main server (with CUPS) which then printed on the print server. Now, I have our computers connect directly to the print server. It's way faster now. On macOS, it was a breeze : I manually setup an "HP Jetdirect" IP printer with the "HP LaserJet Series PCL 4/5" driver. On Windows 10, it was waaaay harder. I had to manually configure the printer. Tell Windows to communicate with the "raw" protocol on port 9100 (which can be changed somewhere I forgot). I also had to click "Windows Update" and wait a few minutes before being able to select the "HP LaserJet 3050 Series PCL 5e" driver.
